Chronic Kidney Disease
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects more than 20 million Americans, and over 500 000 have end-stage renal disease (ESRD) (1-2). The most common causes of CKD are diabetes and hypertension. CKD is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, cognitive dysfunction, hospitalization, and all-cause mortality.
